Clearolux

Achieve sharper vision and greater confidence with state-of-the-art Clearolux procedures performed with precision, safety, and personalized care.

Clearolux

Clearolux is an advanced vision correction procedure that replaces your eye’s natural lens with a customized intraocular lens (IOL) to improve both distance and near vision.

At North Columbus Eye Center, this procedure is often recommended for patients over 40 who are increasingly dependent on reading glasses or are not ideal candidates for LASIK.
Clearolux uses the same proven technology as modern cataract surgery — but is performed before cataracts develop — allowing patients to improve vision now while preventing cataracts in the future.

What Is Clearolux?

During the procedure, your natural, clear lens is gently removed and replaced with a premium artificial lens selected specifically for your eye measurements and lifestyle goals.

Clearolux can address:

  • Nearsightedness (myopia)
  • Farsightedness (hyperopia)
  • Astigmatism
  • Age-related near vision loss (presbyopia)

Because the implanted lens does not age or become cloudy, cataracts cannot develop after surgery.

Who Is a Candidate?

Clearolux may be a strong option if you:

  • Are over age 40 and increasingly reliant on reading glasses
  • Have a strong prescription outside ideal LASIK ranges
  • Have thin or irregular corneas
  • Want a long-term vision solution
  • Prefer to address vision correction and future cataracts in one procedure
A comprehensive eye examination and diagnostic imaging are required to determine candidacy.

Advanced Lens Technology

One of the key advantages of Clearolux is the ability to customize your visual outcome using modern intraocular lens technology.

Lens options may include:

  • Monofocal lenses – Optimized for clear distance vision
  • Toric lenses – Correct astigmatism
  • Multifocal or extended-depth lenses – Improve both distance and near vision

Your surgeon will guide you through the advantages of each option to match your daily visual needs.

Benefits of Clearolux

  • Long-term correction of refractive errors
  • Reduced dependence on glasses and readers
  • Simultaneous correction of multiple vision issues
  • Prevention of future cataracts
  • Established safety profile using advanced surgical techniques

The Procedure

Clearolux is performed as an outpatient procedure.

  • Typically takes 15–20 minutes per eye
  • Numbing eye drops are used for comfort
  • No hospital stay required

You return home the same day. Many patients notice visual improvement within the first few days.

Clearolux vs. LASIK

Clearolux

  •  Replaces the eye’s natural lens
  • Corrects both near and distance vision
  • Prevents cataracts from forming
  • Often recommended for patients 40 and older

LASIK

• Reshapes the cornea
• Typically suited for younger patients
• Does not prevent cataracts
• May not fully address presbyopia

During your consultation, we will determine which approach best aligns with your eye health and long-term goals.

LASIK or Clearolux?

For younger patients with healthy corneas, LASIK or PRK is often an excellent option.
For patients over 40 experiencing presbyopia or those seeking a long-term lens-based solution, Clearolux (Clear Lens Exchange) may be recommended.
Your consultation will determine the safest and most appropriate procedure based on your eye health and long-term visual goals.
