LASIK & PRK
Laser Vision Correction in Columbus, Georgia
LASIK and PRK are advanced laser vision correction procedures designed to reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses and contact lenses.
At North Columbus Eye Center, we offer modern, all-laser vision correction tailored to your prescription, corneal anatomy, and lifestyle. These procedures reshape the cornea to improve how light focuses on the retina, providing clearer vision for many patients.
LASIK and PRK are most commonly recommended for adults under 40, though candidacy depends on a detailed eye evaluation.
What Do LASIK and PRK Treat?
Laser vision correction can improve:
- Nearsightedness (myopia)
- Farsightedness (hyperopia)
- Astigmatism
- Both procedures use precise laser technology — the difference lies in how the cornea is accessed.
LASIK vs. PRK
LASIK
- A thin flap is created in the cornea
- Laser reshapes underlying tissue
- Flap is repositioned
- Faster visual recovery for most patients
PRK
- No corneal flap is created
- Surface cells are gently removed
- Laser reshapes the cornea
- Slightly longer recovery period
PRK may be recommended for patients with thinner corneas or certain corneal surface characteristics. During your consultation, we determine which option is safest and most effective for your eyes.
Who is a Candidate?
You may be a good candidate for LASIK or PRK if you:
- Are at least 18 years old
- Have a stable prescription
- Have healthy corneas
- Do not have significant dry eye or certain corneal conditions
- Are seeking reduced dependence on glasses or contacts
A comprehensive eye examination, including advanced corneal measurements, is required to confirm candidacy.
Benefits of Laser Vision Correction
